Visualising Music

For DR Koncerthuset, I created a collection of abstract visuals designed for the large concrete walls throughout the foyer. The idea was to create a visual library that could set the atmosphere for visitors before entering the main concert hall or one of the smaller studios, while also creating a series of hero visuals that could reflect the architecture and surroundings of DR Byen.

The visuals span a wide range of musical genres, from classical and choral music to punk and electronic. Alongside these, I created a series of nature- and water-inspired visuals, drawing from the landscape surrounding DR Byen and translating its organic qualities into abstract moving images.

The project gave me a lot of creative freedom to explore my own interpretation of what different genres of music could look like in abstract form. I was interested in how Koncerthuset could communicate mood and identity without words, using movement, texture, rhythm and light instead.

The visuals are displayed across approximately 20 projectors positioned at eight different locations throughout the three levels of the venue, allowing the work to become part of the architecture itself rather than simply being displayed on a screen.
