I have been stuttering and experiencing tics my whole life. Not being able to express myself and producing sounds uncontrollably is something many people can't imagine or relate to. In this project, I explored the feelings and memories regarding the matter, attempting to visualize the experience of stuttering and having tics. I created a soundscape composed entirely of sounds and words, from my mouth. My goal was to highlight this subject for others like myself and for those without a stutter to help them understand the experience and perhaps give them new insight into the experience.

It’s a frame-by-frame animation, combining a soundscape with visual figures that correspond to different sounds. The first part is designed to give a stressful and frustrating sensation, reflecting the experience of not being able to speak or having no control over the sounds I make. The second part allows space to breathe, finding rhythm and calmness in having a stutter and tics. The animation tells a story primarily about my own experiences and emotions, but it’s also created to help others step into the situation — making stuttering and tics more relatable through visual and sound design.
